This unique 1957 Mercedes-Benz LF 311 classic fire engine in concours condition is a valuable addition for collectors and vintage vehicle enthusiasts.
It was originally acquired by the plant fire brigade of Chemische Werke Hüls AG in Herne-Wanne.
The TroSLF 16 with a Carl Metz body was deployed as a group fire engine designated LF 16-S (special build).
With a different body, it could transport 560 liters of foam agent and 750 kg of powder, making this vehicle particularly versatile.
The large loudspeaker on the roof was used for important announcements to plant personnel and the public.
The vehicle remained in active service with Chemische Werke Hüls AG until the late 1980s, after which it was acquired and meticulously restored by the volunteer fire brigade Herne, unit "In der Wanne".
